Winemaker Notes
Showcasing spectacular concentration and complexity, this wine offers remarkable depth and richness, with aromas of sun-drenched blackberry, briarberry, espresso, dark chocolate, cedar, and graphite. On the palate, the wine is framed by firm, mouth-filling tannins, and excellent structure that underscore opulent flavors of dark berry and spice.
Sitting just above the fog line, sheltered from the valley breezes, this distinct vineyard retains the heat from the early morning sun throughout the day and the additional warmth, paired with the vineyard’s shallow iron-rich soils, combine to create a distinctive flavor profile that is concentrated, complex and classically structured.

Critical Acclaim

James Suckling - 97pts
Outstanding balance and complexity from the beginning that showcases concentrated black fruits and purple flowers with plenty of spices and subtle yet harmonious toast and cedar aromas. Intense graphite and stony minerality, too. Full- to medium-bodied on the mid-palate with delightful acidity that gives this wonderful crunchiness. Fine-grained juicy tannins. Precisely focused wine that is colorful and sound. Beautiful length, too. Already so drinkable now but will age gracefully, especially for Atlas Peak.

Wine Enthusiast - 94pts
While big and firmly structured, this super-concentrated wine starts off smooth and generous. It offers baked blueberries and dark chocolate before toasted oak, graphite and iron nuances work their way into the palate impression

Jeb Dunnuck - 93pts
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Fog Break comes from a site on Atlas Peak that lies just above the fog line. As with all these releases, it's all variety and the levage spanned 16 months in 55% new barrels. There's no doubt it's a mountain wine, but it holds onto a remarkable sense of purity and finesse, with fine tannins. Giving up both red and black fruits (it shows more black fruits with air), it has solid spice and floral nuances, nicely integrated background oak, notable balance, and an undeniable sense of minerality on the finish. It's another terrific wine in the portfolio, but it needs 3-5 years of bottle age.

Wine Spectator - 93pts
This captures the vintage nicely, with ripe, polished, almost glistening black currant, mulberry and blackberry fruit flavors racing through, framed with graphite, violet and apple wood notes. A well-toasted version, aimed for fans of that style, but this shows serious fruit throughout. Best from 2025 through 2036. 1,100 cases made.
